Role Purpose

We are looking for a Principal Research Analyst to join Wood Mackenzie’s Power and Renewables Valuations team. This person will drive the growth of our Renewables Valuations offerings and lead the refinements of existing methodologies and models. The Principal Analyst will collaborate with the existing Valuations team to develop and maintain valuation models for renewables assets across the globe.

This new role will be on the ground floor of developing our wind and solar valuations work, an area of high priority of growth within the company. The successful candidate will have deep subject matter expertise in Renewables Valuations and will deliver as a thought leader on asset valuations, corporate landscape, and policy environments in the Power & Renewables space. The candidate will work closely across our Power and Renewables teams to support coverage of the global renewable industry.

Wood Mackenzie Power & Renewables promotes analysts as industry experts and as such, analysts must be thoughtful, curious, and creative. Analysts are expected to take complex, disparate ideas and distil them into simple, provocative concepts. Attention to detail and dedication to continuous process improvement are critical in this role.

Main Responsibilities

  • Asset Valuation Model Development

    • Drive the expansion of Wood Mackenzie’s valuation models

    • Monitor and maintain relevant data through secondary and primary research

    • Ensure continuous improvement of models, methodology, and data quality and accuracy

    • Lead engagement with customers and developers to gather feedback on modelling inputs and methodology

    • Collaborate with market experts across the world and our existing Product, Research and Data teams to improve and refine valuation methodology and output

  • Research, Analysis and Report Writing

    • Lead and contribute to thought-leading research publications including but not limited to corporate benchmarking, revenue dynamics, IRR analysis

    • Ensure all deliverables are executed and delivered in a timely fashion to a high standard

  • Networking and Industry collaboration

    • Establish and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders in the industry and clients

    • Establish an industry presence as an influential speaker and thinker; build relationships with senior industry professionals – solar and wind project developers and EPCs, turbine OEMs, component suppliers and raw material suppliers as well as with the journalists who cover the sector; and participate in vendor briefings and press enquiries as necessary

  • Business Development

    • Work directly with sales and marketing via internal and external communications to actively help generate new sales, build larger programs for existing clients, and effectively market completed research

    • Present at Wood Mackenzie and industry-sponsored events, and moderate client webinars

Qualifications

About You

  • You have experience in banking or development at a wind, solar or other renewable company. You have a deep understanding of Renewables Valuations and strong experience within the following areas:

    • Asset valuation of wind and solar assets

    • Building financial models to support deal financing and risk analysis

    • Discounted cash flow modelling and IRR analysis

    • Asset model development

    • Levelized cost of energy (LCOE)

    • Revenue streams including support schemes

  • You have worked on Renewables development, refinancing, and M&A deals and have a strong understanding of all relevant factors

  • You have excellent analytical skills, an eye for detail and strong quantitative skills. You are commercially aware and have strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • You have an engaging nature and are capable of connecting with co-workers, clients and industry stakeholders in a wide range of professional settings

  • You foster a deep intellectual curiosity about what drives markets based on economic principles
